Chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergies, and recurring sinus pressure can make daily life miserable. Medications often bring side effects or only temporary relief.

At Master Acupuncture Healing Center, we use targeted acupuncture to reduce sinus inflammation, drain congested passages, and restore normal breathing–without drugs re invasive procedures.

How Acupuncture Works for Sinus Relief

Acupuncture stimulates specific points that:

• Reduce inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses

•Drain built-up mucus and relieve pressure

• Calm the immune system to reduce allergic reactions

• Improve local blood circulation for faster healing

We combine traditional Chinese medicine with a modern understanding of sinus anatomy to deliver results you can feel after just a few sessions.

The Chinese Medicine Approach to Sinus Health

More Than Congestion: Understanding  the Root Cause

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the sinuses are not viewed in isolation. Chronic sinusitis, recurrent infections, and stubborn allergies are seen as sign of an imbalance within the body’s deeper systems–particularly the Lungs, Spleen, and Defensive Qi (Wei Qi).

Rather than simply suppressing symptoms, acupuncture and TCM aim to restore harmony so the body can heal itself.

The Key TCM Concepts Behind Sinus Relief

1. The Lungs Govern the Nose and Open into the Nasal Passages

In TCM theory, the Lung meridian is directly connected to the nose. When Qi is strong, nasal passages stay clear and the sense of smell is sharp. When Lung Qi is weak or invaded by external pathogens (such as Wind-Cold or Wind-Heat), the result is nasal congestion, loss of smell, and a tendency toward sinus infections.

2. The Spleen and the Role of Dampness

The Spleen is responsible for transforming and transporting fluids in the body. When Spleen function is compromised–often due to diet, stress, or constitutional weakness–fluids accumulate and transform into Dampness. Dampness rising to the nasal passages manifests as thick mucus, post-nasal drip, and a sensation of heaviness in the face.

3. Defensive Qi (Wei Qi) and Immune Function

Wei Qi is the body’s protective energy–similar to the immune system. It circulates just beneath the skin and acts as the first line of defense against external pathogens. When Wei Qi us weak, a person catches colds easily and sinus infections become recurrent. Allergies, in TCM terms, often reflect a state where Wei Qi is unable to regulate the body’s reaction to environmental triggers.

4. Wind as the Primary Pathogen

In TCM, “Wind” is considered the leading cause of sudden-onset conditions like allergy attacks and acute sinus flare-ups. Wind often combines with Cold or Heat:

• Wind-Cold: Clear, water discharge; sneezing; sensitivity to cold air

• Wind-Heat: Yellow or green mucus; facial pain; thirst; feeling or heat

Why Choose Our Mississauga Acupuncture Center

Specialized in Sinus & Allergy

From a TCM perspective, treating sinus symptoms without addressing the underlying imbalance often leads to recurrence.

By combining targeted sinus acupuncture with constitutional support, we aim to:

Resolve active symptoms (pressure, congestion, pain)

Strengthen underlying systems (Lung, Spleen, Wei Qi)

Reduce recurrence and reliance on medication

Improve overall energy, digestion, and immune resilience

In our Mississauga acupuncture center, a comprehensive sinus treatment plan may also include:

Cupping therapy on the upper back to expel Wind and relieve lung congestion

Moxibustion (heat therapy) to warm Cold-type sinus conditions and boost Wei Qi

Herbal Formulas (when appropriate) to resolve lingering Dampness or strengthen Lung and Spleen function

Dietary guidance aligned with TCM principles–reducing dairy and damp-forming foods while adding warming, Qi-building ingredients like ginger, scallions, and cooked root vegetables
